Read-only ยท Never moves money
The short answer: Adra and Cadency are the same company selling to two different sizes of finance team, and the dividing line is scope, not quality. Adra is a five module suite for a mid-market team that needs transaction matching, balance sheet reconciliation, a close checklist, reporting and journal entries. Cadency is the large enterprise platform, and it adds two things Adra does not have at all: intercompany accounting and a formal governance, risk and compliance framework for testing controls. Neither publishes a price. If you are a controller with a few hundred general ledger accounts and a team of three, the honest answer is almost always Adra.
Every claim below was read off trintech.com on September 8, 2026 using rendered page dumps of nine product pages, the trust center and both page sitemaps. Trintech reorganizes its product pages regularly, so re-check the live pages before you sign anything.

What is the difference between Adra and Cadency?
Cadency covers the whole record-to-report cycle for an enterprise; Adra covers the reconciliation and close work a mid-market team actually does. That is the difference in one line, and Trintech is unusually direct about it. Its own navigation splits by organization size, with Adra under mid-enterprise and Cadency under large enterprise, and the Adra Balancer page describes itself as balance sheet reconciliation software for mid-market companies.
The practical test is whether you need either of the two modules Cadency has and Adra does not. The first is intercompany accounting, which matters if you have entities that trade with each other and have to eliminate those balances every period. The second is the governance, risk and compliance module, which automates financial compliance across the record-to-report process and captures supporting material in what Trintech calls an online, audit-ready eBinder. If you are a public company running a formal SOX control-testing program, that module is the reason Cadency exists. If you are not, you are paying for a framework nobody on your team will open.
There is also a third option most buyers miss. CadencyDirect is Cadency rebuilt as a native application on the ServiceNow platform, and Trintech describes it as the only financial close automation app for digital workflows on the Now Platform. It runs the same six processes. It only makes sense if ServiceNow is already the workflow spine of your business, and if it is, it is a genuinely different proposition from either of the others.
How much does Adra cost, and how much does Cadency cost?
Trintech publishes no price for either product, and it is worth being precise about how thoroughly that is true, because vendors withhold pricing in different ways and the shape tells you something. Checked on September 8, 2026, trintech.com's two page sitemaps list 100 URLs between them and not one of them is a pricing, cost, quote, plans or trial page. The /pricing URL returns a 404. The phrase "free trial" appears zero times across all nine product pages we read. There are no plan tiers, no seat bands, no account limits and no stated minimum anywhere on the site. Book a Demo is the only call to action on every Adra and Cadency page.
That is a stricter absence than some rivals. BlackLine at least had a pricing URL, though it has returned an HTTP 500 on every check since August 2026 and is now missing from its own sitemap. FloQast keeps a live pricing page with named packages and no dollar figure, and states in a headline that it does not charge per user. HighRadius publishes a pricing page with no number plus a separate page promising outcome-based pricing and zero implementation fees. Trintech simply does not have the page.
| What a buyer wants to know | Adra | Cadency |
|---|---|---|
| Any dollar figure on the site | No | No |
| A pricing page that loads | No. No pricing URL exists in either page sitemap; /pricing is a 404 | No. Same |
| Stated metering basis | Not stated | Not stated |
| Named packages you can ask about | Matcher, Balancer, Task Manager, Analytics, Journal Entry | Balance Sheet Reconciliations, Transaction Matching, Close Management, Journal Entry, GRC, Intercompany |
| Trial | None. Recorded demos for Matcher, Balancer and Task Manager | None. Recorded demos for Match, Certification and Close |
| How you get a number | Book a Demo | Book a Demo |
Because the modules are named separately in both products, the single most useful question on a first call is which modules are in the quote and which are add-ons. A quote that includes Matcher and Balancer is a very different number from one that also carries Journal Entry and Task Manager. Our reconciliation software pricing comparison tracks what every vendor in this category publishes and the date each figure was checked, and the Trintech cost guide covers the company-level picture.
What is included in the Adra Suite?
Five modules, and they are worth reading individually because Adra's strength is concentrated in the first two.
Adra Matcher is the transaction matching engine and it is the best part of the suite. It does automated multi-way matching, meaning three-way and four-way, and handles one-to-one, one-to-many, many-to-one and many-to-many relationships. It ships a library of predefined rules such as Same Day-Same Value that clear transactions which zero out, and you can add your own. It reads data in its raw form, which Trintech calls raw readability, so there is no spreadsheet cleanup step before import. When something does not match, an AI feature Trintech calls suggestive manual matching proposes candidates and you accept or discard them. Trintech says the engine reduces the transactions needing investigation by up to 90 percent. It matches against bank statements, credit card statements, point of sale files, merchant files and third-party delivery services, and it supports daily rather than monthly reconciliation with optional sign-offs.
Adra Balancer handles the balance sheet. It connects to the ERP for the general ledger, auto-reconciles low-risk accounts against configurable threshold rules so that anything inside the deviation needs no review, and centralizes substantiation documents including invoices, purchase orders and bank statements in a cloud library. If a balance changes after it has been certified, the preparer and the approver are both alerted automatically and the audit trail updates. It also has an AI-assisted variance analysis that highlights balance changes and suggests likely drivers. Usefully for teams that are not ready to abandon Excel, Balancer supports spreadsheet-based reconciliations: keep the spreadsheet, tag and upload it, and the platform still auto-reconciles, tracks changes and holds the audit trail.
Adra Task Manager is the close checklist: centralized task libraries with folders for receivables, payables, accruals and cash, AI-generated task lists built from task descriptions, real-time dashboards, automated notifications and built-in separation of duties. Adra Analytics pushes close data into Power BI, Excel or Tableau. Adra Journal Entry standardizes journal creation, posting and reporting with two-way communication to the ERP.
Does Adra or Cadency connect to QuickBooks, Xero or Sage Intacct?
Neither one names them. This is the single most important thing for a mid-market buyer to establish before the demo, and it is easy to verify. Across the nine Trintech product pages we rendered on September 8, 2026, the words QuickBooks, Xero, Sage and Sage Intacct appear zero times. So do Stripe, PayPal, Square and Shopify. What does appear, repeatedly, is NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Workday, Microsoft Dynamics, ServiceNow and Planful.
Adra's own integrations section names exactly three pre-built connectors: a NetSuite connector, a Microsoft Dynamics integration Trintech calls the first and only financial close solution embedded in Microsoft 365, and Planful. Everything beyond that is covered by a phrase Trintech uses deliberately: Adra's solutions are system, source and file agnostic, and there is no need to reformat the data from your ERP.
That phrasing is honest and it is not a weakness, but read it for what it says. File agnostic means a file. If your ledger is QuickBooks Online, Xero, Sage Intacct or Business Central, somebody produces an extract on a schedule and something has to happen to it before Adra sees it. Ask in the demo who owns that step, how often it runs, and what happens the month that person is on vacation. Vendors that connect to your ledger read-only do not have that step at all, which is the design Reconciler uses.
Which one is right for a mid-market finance team?
Adra, in almost every case, and Trintech's own customer stories make the case better than its marketing does. RE/MAX loads 700 accounts into Adra a month, moved 450 accounts from monthly to quarterly reconciliation, and set an auto-reconciliation rule for accounts under $1,000. Ruby Slipper Cafe cut its close from day 10 or 11 to day 5 to 7 and brought accounts receivable, gift card and corporate card reconciliations back in house. Binswager Glass went from roughly 40 hours a month reconciling in Excel to 20 to 25. Marginalen Bank reports saving 50 to 70 percent of the time it spent on reconciliations and finishing by the tenth of each month. Those are Trintech's published customer figures rather than our measurements, but they describe a mid-market shape, not an enterprise one.
Move to Cadency when one of four things is true: you have intercompany balances to eliminate, you run a formal controls-testing program that needs the eBinder, your account count runs into the tens of thousands, or ServiceNow is your workflow platform and CadencyDirect lets you keep everything on it. Otherwise the extra framework is cost and change management you will not use.
There is a third answer that neither product covers, and it is worth naming because it is the most common gap we see. If the thing eating your close is not documentation or controls but the raw job of tying bank, card and payment processor activity to a cloud ledger, a close platform is a heavy way to solve it. That is the problem automated transaction matching solves directly, and it is what our own Adra alternative comparison lays out row by row, including the five capabilities Adra has that we deliberately do not build.
Is Trintech SOC 2 compliant?
Yes, and Trintech publishes more security detail than any other vendor we have compared on this site, so this is a row it wins outright. Its trust center states an annual SSAE 18 SOC 1 Type 2 attestation and an annual SOC 2 Type 2 attestation covering security, availability and confidentiality against the AICPA Trust Services Criteria, with a bridge letter issued monthly between audit periods so coverage never lapses. It has been ISO/IEC 27001 certified since 2021, currently against the 2022 revision, and names Schellman as the certification body with a public certificate directory anyone can query. It also lists TX-RAMP Level 2 certification, CSA STAR Level 2 third-party attestation, a SIG questionnaire and CAIQ both refreshed quarterly, and FFIEC-inspired controls folded into its annual audits.
If you are the one being asked for that evidence rather than the one asking, the work is a separate project from buying close software: someone has to inventory your controls, map them to the SOC 2 and ISO 27001 criteria and keep the evidence current between audits. It is worth separating that from the reconciliation decision, because bundling the two is how software evaluations stall for a quarter.
What to ask on the Trintech demo call
Five questions, in this order, and none of them are answerable from the website.
First, which modules are in this quote and which are priced separately. Both products are sold as named modules and the difference between two and five of them is the whole budget conversation. Second, what is the metering basis: users, accounts, entities, transaction volume or a flat platform fee. Trintech states none of these publicly, so you are asking about something no competitor's guide can tell you. Third, exactly how our ledger data arrives, and whether that is a pre-built connector or a scheduled extract somebody maintains. Fourth, what implementation looks like in weeks and who does the work, because the mid-market and enterprise answers to that are very different. Fifth, ask for the SOC 2 Type 2 report and the ISO 27001 certificate rather than the trust center page; Trintech has both, and a vendor that produces them quickly is telling you something about how it will handle everything else.
If you want to compare the answers against the rest of the category before you book anything, the Trintech alternatives comparison covers the company as a whole, and the account reconciliation software roundup puts the mid-market options side by side on price, integrations and scope.
